All central Ohio is invited to a behind the scenes peek into one of Columbus' busiest EDs and one the nation's largest osteopathic teaching hospitals.
What:
Doctors Hospital will unveil its new Emergency Department and the Heritage Center for Osteopathic Medical Education to all central Ohio during an open house this Sunday, May 16.
The expansion project enhances the efficiency of emergency care on the west side of Columbus and solidifies Doctors Hospital's position as one of the leading osteopathic teaching hospitals nationwide.
- The new Emergency Department features an indoor/outdoor decontamination facility, 50 private exam rooms, two trauma rooms, seven triage rooms, comfortable waiting areas and a café and the space to treat up to 100,000 patients per year. The new ED has twice the number of beds and nearly three times the space of the existing ED.
- The Heritage Center for Osteopathic Medical Education combines Doctors' research department, medical library and medical training facility into one comprehensive center and adds leading edge human patient simulators and virtual reality surgical trainers to its medical education program.
The Open House event will include facility tours and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Doctors Hospital President Mike Reichfield. The new facility will officially open to the public in June 2010.
