The Stroke Center at Riverside

Riverside Methodist Hospital > Our Services > Brain, Spine and Stroke (Neuroscience) >

Stroke care unmatched by any other hospital in the region.

Joint Commission National Quality Approval seal Riverside Methodist Hospital was the first hospital in Ohio to receive a Stroke Center certification from the Joint Commission. The honor is reserved for hospitals that exceed national guidelines and benchmarks by making exceptional efforts to create better stroke treatment outcomes.

Riverside Methodist's approach involves a new model of coordinated care by specially trained stroke intervention teams, which begins at or shortly after hospital admission and continues beyond the period of acute medical care into the initial rehabilitation phase. The results of studies and randomized trials have shown lower mortality rates, shorter hospitalizations and greater likelihood of discharge to home with patients treated in integrated stroke units compared to those treated in general medical units.

Riverside Methodist treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in central Ohio. And because Riverside's neurology specialists are often the some of the first in the nation to test the latest treatments available, our patients have access to technology and therapies unmatched by any other hospital in the region.

Innovative stroke treatments at Riverside Methodist Hospital

When a stroke strikes, symptoms may not be as obvious as heart attack symptoms. But even if a patient arrives in Riverside Methodist's Emergency Room hours into a stroke, our physicians are armed with stroke treatments and experience unmatched by any other hospital in the region. Our revolutionary treatments extend the time to treatment window, giving patients a higher chance of surviving their stroke with minimal or no permanent damage.

Our physicians are often the first in the world to research new stroke treatments through clinical trials, it means our patients always have access to the most cutting edge stroke treatments and prevention techniques available.

Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the United States and the number one cause of adult long-term disability. When a stroke strikes, the shorter the time between its onset and treatment can mean a significant difference in the patient's outcome.
